Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal created a major splash in the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24, securing a record INR 18 crore deal with Punjab King. A fierce bidding war among Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings ended with Chahal becoming one of the most expensive bowlers in IPL history.

Chahal’s T20 career speaks for itself, with 96 wickets in 80 T20Is and 354 scalps in 305 T20 matches. His ability to consistently deliver in pressure situations has made him a hot property in the shortest format. Reflecting on his record-breaking bid, Chahal expressed gratitude and excitement, calling it a reward for his years of hard work and dedication. About his auction demand, this legendary bowler stated,

I was quite nervous and anxious because this amount is what I got in the last three seasons combined. I think I deserve this prize, and I am very excited. I’m excited as my bond with Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh is strong, and I will also get to learn a lot from Ricky Ponting, sir. At least I’m closer to home now. It was Jaipur initially, and now it will be Chandigarh.

Joining Punjab Kings brings Chahal closer to home and reunites him with teammates like Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh. Under the mentorship of legendary coach Ricky Ponting, Chahal is eager to further refine his skills.

As the all-time leading wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore and IPL’s highest wicket-taker overall with 205 wickets, Chahal’s move to PBKS signals a new chapter. Known for his game-changing performances, he aims to help Punjab Kings end their title drought.
