With the IPL 2025 starting from March 14, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is yet to appoint a captain after releasing Faf du Plessis, who led the team in IPL 2024. In an exclusive interview with Sports Tak, RCB head coach Andy Flower addressed speculations about Virat Kohli potentially taking over the captaincy.

Flower stated that no formal communication has been made regarding the captaincy decision, and hinted at a “new era” for the franchise as they begin a fresh three-year cycle. He said:

Well, you’re going to have to wait for the outcome. It’s a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle, and I’m sure the anticipation will be good for you.

Kohli remains the most prominent figure within RCB, leading to speculation that he might return as the captain. However, other reports also suggested Rajat Patidar could be in the running for the role.

Kohli, who recently played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will next be seen in action during India’s ODI series against England in February 2025. Despite their strong performances, RCB has yet to secure an IPL title, with their most recent failure being a loss to Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 edition.
