In the latest development ahead of IPL 2025, Torrent Group is set to acquire a 67% majority stake in Gujarat Titans from CVC Capital Partners. The Ahmedabad-based conglomerate, valued at approximately INR 41,000 crore, is finalizing the deal, pending approval from the IPL Governing Council.

CVC Capital Partners, a global private equity firm, initially purchased Gujarat Titans in 2021 for INR 5625 crore when the BCCI introduced two new franchises. Under their ownership, Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in their debut season in 2022, finished as runners-up in 2023 under Hardik Pandya, and ended eighth in IPL 2024 with Shubman Gill as captain.

Torrent Group has long been keen on entering the IPL, having previously bid for franchises in 2021 and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) but lost out to other bidders. Their IPL investment will be overseen by Jinal Mehta, son of chairman emeritus Sudhir Mehta.

With home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans boast a strong squad featuring players like Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Jos Buttler, and Mohammed Siraj. This acquisition marks Torrent Group’s entry into the world of franchise cricket, as they look to build on Gujarat Titans’ early success.
