IPL 2025: Manjrekar’s IPL Prediction Draws a Sharp Criticism from Shami
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami criticized Sanjay Manjrekar for his prediction of a potential dip in Shami's IPL auction value due to his injury history. Responding sarcastically on Instagram, Shami labelled Manjrekar a "baba" for his foresight. Shami, who recently returned to cricket after a lengthy injury, showcased his form in the Ranji Trophy after being released by Gujarat Titans.
With the IPL Auction 2025 just around the corner, predictions for the top earners have been the centre of attention, sparking debates among fans and experts. Recently, Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that Mohammed Shami might see a dip in his auction value due to concerns over his injury history.
Speaking on Star Sports, Manjrekar highlighted that while Shami’s talent is undeniable, his prolonged absence from cricket due to injuries could deter franchises from investing heavily in him, fearing a mid-season breakdown. He stated:
There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season.
Shami, however, did not take these comments lightly. In a sharp response on Instagram, the veteran pacer mocked Manjrekar, calling him a “baba” who predicts the future and sarcastically advised him to save some knowledge for himself.
In the story posted, he said:
Baba ki jai hoooooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile.
Shami’s comeback to professional cricket has been remarkable, with a stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy, where he claimed four wickets in his first game since 2018. Despite being released by Gujarat Titans after missing the 2024 IPL season, Shami’s past record, including being the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023, makes him a strong contender for a substantial bid in the upcoming auction.
