IPL 2025: LSG Owner Admits to Overspending on Rishabh Pant at IPL 2025 Auction
Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka admitted to slightly overpaying for Rishabh Pant, acquired for INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Initially budgeting INR 26 crore, LSG stretched to secure the wicketkeeper-batter, beating fierce bids from CSK, DC, and PBKS. Pant joins Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, and David Miller in bolstering LSG’s middle order.
India’s star wicketkeeper and one of the most prolific batters in recent times, Rishabh Pant, is all set to represent Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. Pant made history at the IPL 2025 mega auction, becoming the most expensive player ever sold, fetching INR 27 crore. Lucknow Super Giants’ owner Sanjiv Goenka revealed that the franchise had initially set aside INR 26 crore for Pant but had to exceed their budget by INR 1 crore to outbid other strong contenders like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings.
Despite admitting to slightly overpaying, Goenka expressed confidence that fans would be thrilled with the signing. In the statement given, his son, Shashwat said:
“It was part of our plan, he was on our list. We had kept about Rs 26 crore for him. So, 27 was slightly up but we’re happy to have him. He’s an outstanding player, a team man, a match-winner. All our fans should be very, very happy to have him as a member of LSG.”
Pant will join a middle order featuring Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, and David Miller, significantly bolstering the team’s batting lineup. His move to Lucknow comes after Delhi Capitals, his former franchise, chose not to retain him, marking a fresh chapter in his illustrious IPL career.
