ICC Champions Trophy 2025: PCB Stays Strong on Hosting Tournament Despite Ongoing Disputes
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made a bold statement about BCCI secretary Jay Shah. He expressed hope that after Shah takes charge of the International Cricket Council, he would focus on the ICC's interests rather than those of the BCCI.
For the past month, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been a hot topic in cricket. This is mainly due to discussions between the BCCI and the PCB regarding the tournament’s venue and schedule. Both boards have been involved in the decision making process, causing much debate and attention.
The BCCI has made it clear that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a government ban on travel for security reasons. Meanwhile, the PCB has firmly stated that they will host the entire tournament in Pakistan, repeatedly emphasising their position.
Mohsin Naqvi expressed trust in Jay Shah to prioritise ICC’s interests, he said:
(Jay Shah) takes charge in December, and I’m sure once he moves from the BCCI to the ICC, he will think about the ICC’s benefit, and that’s what he should do. Whenever anyone assumes such a role, he should only consider the interests of that organization.
Reports suggest the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 could be moved out of Pakistan due to ongoing unrest. This follows Sri Lanka A’s decision to leave their tour early for the same reason. The pressure could lead the Pakistan Cricket Board to agree to a hybrid model for the tournament.
