Cricket Australia chairman Mike Baird has publicly addressed the comments made by former ICC chairman Greg Barclay about Australia’s stance on playing Afghanistan in bilateral cricket tournaments. Baird’s response comes amid ongoing discussions about the future of international cricket and Australia’s participation in matches against Afghanistan.

Former ICC chairman Greg Barclay’s term recently ended, with Jay Shah taking over as the new chairman. In an interview, Barclay criticized Cricket Australia, accusing them of hypocrisy. He argued that if Australia wanted to make a political statement, they should refuse to play Afghanistan, even in World Cup matches. He said:

If you really want to make a political statement, don’t play them in a World Cup, Sure, it might cost you a semi-final place, but principles are principles. It’s not about having half a principle.

Mike Baird, chairman of Cricket Australia, responded to Greg Barclay’s comments. He stated that Barclay’s views were personal and emphasized Cricket Australia’s pride in its stance on the issue. Baird reaffirmed CA’s ongoing support for Afghanistan’s women’s cricket team in the future.

Mike Baird explained that everyone has their own views. He said Cricket Australia has taken a firm stand on the issue and is dedicated to continuing its support for women’s cricket in Afghanistan.
