ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Controversy Surrounds Champions Trophy as Hybrid Model and Venue Disputes Continue
There has been a lot of discussion recently about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan, the tournament has already sparked controversy, despite the event being still far off in the future. The situation continues to grab attention.
The ICC Champions Trophy became a major issue after the BCCI in India made it clear that they would not travel to Pakistan. This has led to tensions between the two boards, with the Pakistan Cricket Board firmly insisting on hosting the tournament in Pakistan despite the controversy.
For the past month, both the BCCI and PCB have been exchanging conflicting statements, leading the ICC to step in as a mediator. The ICC has been working to resolve the issue and recently held a virtual meeting. A decision regarding the ICC Champions Trophy is expected to be announced soon.
Reports indicate that during the ICC’s virtual meeting, a hybrid model was proposed to the Pakistan Cricket Board for the Champions Trophy. Under this proposal, three of India’s matches, along with the semifinal and final would be played in a neutral country to help resolve the ongoing dispute.
The International Cricket Council has proposed two plans for the tournament. One plan suggests that out of 15 matches, three of India’s group matches, including the game against Pakistan, along with one semifinal and the final, will be played at a neutral venue, most likely in the UAE. The second plan states that if India doesn’t qualify, both the semifinal and dia will be held in Pakistan.
