After Starc and Hazlewood, Is Spencer Johnson the Latest to Exit IPL 2025?

Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of the remaining IPL 2025 matches due to a back injury. The Australian left-arm quick, who took just one wicket in four games at an economy rate of 11.73, has returned home. His absence follows those of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. KKR currently stands sixth with 11 points from 12 matches.

As the IPL 2025 remains suspended, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been hit with another major blow as Australian pacer Spencer Johnson is ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. After Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood exited earlier, Johnson became the third high-profile Aussie pacer to miss the rest of the season. Dealing with a back injury, Johnson has not featured in any game since April and has already returned to Australia. Before his exit, Johnson had played 4 matches, managing only 1 wicket at a disappointing economy rate of 11.73.

KKR’s campaign has struggled throughout the season. The defending champions lost their opening game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru and have since managed just 5 wins in 12 matches. With 11 points, they currently sit sixth on the points table. Even if they win their final two league games against Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 10) and RCB (May 17), their playoff chances remain slim.

The IPL 2025 was suspended on May 9 amid India-Pakistan tensions, with 57 matches completed and 16, including playoffs, still pending. A restart between May 16 and 30 is under consideration, depending on border stability, with Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru likely hosts. Ahmedabad is being viewed as a potential venue for the final if plans change.
