Rohit Sharma made a memorable comeback, smashing 84 off 44 balls to lead the Mumbai Indians to a thrilling 6-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede. Chasing 229, MI got home with 8 balls left to keep slim playoff hopes alive. LSG posted 228, powered by Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 63 off 21.

Mumbai Indians finally turned up when they had no room left for mistakes. This was pretty much a knockout game for them, and they handled the pressure well. Chasing 229 is not something teams pull off every day, but MI made it look far easier than expected by winning with 6 wickets left. Lucknow had done a lot right with the bat. At one point, they looked ready to post something even bigger than 228. Nicholas Pooran completely changed the momentum after coming in. He was brutal against anything slightly off line and raced to 63 from just 21 balls.

It was one of those knocks where bowlers just wait for it to end. After 10 overs, Lucknow were already 141 for 3. That is the sort of score that usually gives teams full control of a match. Mitchell Marsh also gave them a strong hand early on, so Mumbai never really got a quiet phase to settle. Still, despite that flying start, Lucknow probably left a few runs out there. They comfortably crossed 200, but maybe another 10 or 15 would have made a difference later. Not much changed for Rishabh Pant, though. His tough season continued with another small score.

He made 15 and never really looked set. Mumbai’s chase was all about the opening stand. That is where the game really shifted. Rohit Sharma came out looking positive from the beginning. No slow start, no feeling out the pitch, just clear intent. He and Ryan Rickelton took control early and made sure the asking rate never became the main story. 71 without loss after the power play was exactly what Mumbai needed. Once they got to 127 without losing a wicket in 10 overs, the pressure was almost entirely back on Lucknow. Rohit looked comfortable throughout. He picked the gaps well, punished loose balls, and never allowed the chase to drift.

His 84 off 44 balls was the innings that decided the match. He probably deserved a hundred too, but got out while trying to keep the tempo high. Rickelton deserves credit as well. His fifty might get less attention, but it was important because he kept Rohit company and did not allow wickets to break the momentum. Mumbai did lose a few wickets late, including Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, which briefly made things interesting. But only briefly. A late hit from Naman Dhir finished the chase, and MI got over the line in 18.4 overs. For Mumbai, this keeps the season alive. For Lucknow, this one will hurt. They had a huge total, were in a strong position early, and still ended up on the losing side.
