Cricket in Numbers: Bowlers Who Conceded the Most Runs in a Single IPL Match
Bowling in the IPL can turn brutal, with Jofra Archer topping the unwanted list after conceding 76 against SRH. Mohammed Shami followed with 75, while Will O’Rourke gave away 74. Several others, including Mohit Sharma and Arshdeep Singh, also feature, showing how even top bowlers can endure expensive outings.
Bowling in the IPL has rarely been easy, and in recent seasons it has only gotten tougher. With flat pitches, shorter boundaries, and fearless batting, bowlers often find themselves under constant pressure. Even the best in the business have had days when nothing seems to work. Here are 3 instances in which bowlers conceded a massive number of runs in a single match.
76 Runs – Jofra Archer vs SRH
It was a forgettable outing for Jofra Archer, who went through one of the toughest spells seen in the league. Bowling his full 4 overs, he conceded 76 runs without taking a wicket. The runs came quickly, and he never really managed to settle into a rhythm. Sunrisers Hyderabad batters went after him from the very beginning.
Ishan Kishan and Travis Head did not allow him to build any pressure, finding boundaries almost at will. Archer managed just 1 dot ball in the entire spell, which says a lot about how the over went each time he came on to bowl. He also gave away a couple of extras, and on a day when SRH piled up 286, his spell became one of the key reasons behind that massive total.
75 Runs – Mohammed Shami vs PBKS
Mohammed Shami, known for his control and experience, also had a rare off day. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he conceded 75 runs in his 4 overs against Punjab Kings without picking up a wicket. From the start, the PBKS batters looked comfortable against him.
He struggled to hit consistent lengths and was punished whenever he missed his line. Shami managed only 3 dot balls in his entire spell, which made it difficult to build any pressure or create chances. Despite his experience, he could not break partnerships or slow things down, and the runs kept flowing throughout his spell.
74 Runs – Will O’Rourke vs RCB
Will O’Rourke’s outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was another example of how brutal T20 cricket can be. Bowling for Lucknow Super Giants, he conceded 74 runs in his 4 overs. He did manage to pick up 2 wickets, but that did little to ease the damage.
RCB batters kept attacking him, preventing him from settling at any stage. With just 3 dot balls in his spell, there was hardly any pressure created. A couple of wides added to his troubles, and even though he had moments of success with the ball, the overall impact of his spell hurt his team badly in a high-scoring contest.
