IPL 2025: David Warner Faces IPL 2025 Auction Surprise as Aakash Chopra Links His Exclusion to Non-Cricketing Reasons
One of the biggest surprises of the IPL 2025 Auction was David Warner remaining unsold. The left-handed opener is considered one of the greatest players in IPL history, with an outstanding record in the tournament. His absence from the auction left many shocked.
With a base price of INR 2 crore in the auction, David Warner went unsold. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra suggested that Warner’s absence was due to non-cricketing reasons. He argued that while older players like Faf du Plessis were picked, Warner’s exclusion was surprising considering his record and experience.
Delhi Capitals signed Faf du Plessis for his base price of INR 2 crore. The former South African player had been the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the past three seasons but was not retained by the team for the upcoming season.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra discussed David Warner going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Chopra stated that Warner is one of the greatest players of all time and pointed out that he already has impressive statistics to his name, highlighting his strong record in the tournament.
Chopra added that David Warner’s unsold status was likely due to non-cricketing reasons. He pointed to Faf du Plessis as an example, noting that despite his age, du Plessis was retained by a team, suggesting that factors beyond cricket may have influenced Warner’s exclusion.
