The final decision regarding Dhoni’s retention by the team has not been confirmed yet. The CEO of Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, had a talk about the retention of Captain Cool for the upcoming IPL edition, to which he said,

We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, “I will tell you before October 31.” We hope that he will play.

Retention Deadlines

It has been announced that October 31st is the last date for all the teams to give their retention list. MS Dhoni is likely to receive more benefits with the help of the uncapped player rule, which has been bought back by the BCCI. According to this rule, the former Indian players who have not been on the team for 5 years or more will be entitled to be uncapped players. Therefore, teams will be able to retain them starting with a base price of 4 crore INR.
