The participation of Shakib al Hasan in the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan is unclear. According to the reports, al Hasan and the Bangladesh cricket board are unsure about his selection. In recent months, he has been in the news due to anti-government protests in Bangladesh and was even accused in a murder case involving a worker during the protests.

Although he was allowed to play for Bangladesh until proven guilty, Shakib al Hasan participated in the test series against India, where he announced his retirement from tests and T20Is. He wanted to end his test career at his home during the ongoing series against South Africa, but security concerns arose. Ultimately, it was safer for him not to return for the matches against South Africa, even though he was selected.

After announcing his retirement, Shakib al Hasan stated that he will continue playing ODIs and plans to end his career after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He was expected to play in the series against Afghanistan and West Indies to prepare for the tournament. However, he is uncertain about participating in the Afghanistan ODI series.

Reports suggest that Shakib wants to play for the team, but some selectors are opposed to his selection. They believe it wouldn’t be wise to include him since he frequently joins the team from overseas.
