In the second Test of the series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, South Africa concluded Day 1 in a dominant position, posting 307 runs for the loss of just two wickets in 81 overs. South Africa, already leading the series 1-0, won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that paid off as they took early control of the game.

The opening partnership between Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi provided a steady start, with the pair putting together a 69-run stand before Taijul Islam dismissed Markram for 33. Following Markram’s departure, de Zorzi was joined by Tristan Stubbs, and the two batsmen formed a formidable partnership, building the South African innings with a solid 201-run stand for the second wicket.

Tony de Zorzi reached his century and continued his impressive knock, finishing the day unbeaten on 141 runs off 211 deliveries. Stubbs also showed great skill, reaching a century before falling to Taijul Islam, who bowled him for 106 off 198 balls. With this double breakthrough, Taijul emerged as Bangladesh’s best bowler, claiming both wickets for 110 runs from his 30 overs.

As the day came to a close, David Bedingham joined de Zorzi at the crease and remained not out on 18. South Africa’s strong batting has set a solid foundation for Day 2, where de Zorzi will look to extend his innings and take South Africa to a commanding position.
