Shocking! No Pakistani Players Picked in The Hundred 2025 – Here is Why!

In the 2025 Hundred Draft, all 45 Pakistani players, including stars like Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah, went unsold. This was largely due to private investments from IPL franchise owners in the league, who traditionally avoid signing Pakistani players. Additionally, Pakistan’s busy international schedule in July-August also impacted their selection.

With the 2025 Hundred Draft concluded, a shocking revelation emerged — all 45 Pakistani players, including stars like Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah, went unsold. While many expected at least a few Pakistani cricketers to secure contracts, multiple factors contributed to their exclusion.

One major reason is the recent private investments in The Hundred, with four IPL franchise owners, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals, acquiring stakes in different teams. Given the IPL’s long-standing ban on Pakistani players since 2009, these investors likely avoided signing Pakistani players to maintain their stance.

Additionally, player availability played a significant role. Pakistan has a packed international schedule in July and August, coinciding with The Hundred’s season. Franchise owners likely hesitated to invest in players who might not be available for the entire tournament. Despite form not being a concern, Saim Ayub is among the most promising T20 batters, and other Pakistan players have excelled in franchise leagues worldwide, but they were overlooked.

This absence raises questions about cricketing politics and future opportunities for Pakistani stars in global leagues. As The Hundred moves forward with its revamped structure, the impact of IPL franchise involvement on player selection could continue shaping future drafts.
