WPL 2025: Baroda and Lucknow Emerging as Hosts for WPL 2025 Tournament
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is set to be hosted across two cities, Baroda and Lucknow, in February and March. Lucknow will host the tournament’s first phase, while Baroda’s newly built Kotambi Stadium is expected to host the second phase, including the final. The BCCI is finalizing venues and dates, with formal announcements expected soon.
For the new season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), things are getting exciting as Baroda and Lucknow have been shortlisted as potential venues for the 2025 edition. The tournament will be held in two phases, with Lucknow expected to host the opening matches starting around February 6 or 7, while Baroda is likely to host the second phase, including the grand final around March 8-9.
The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has proposed the newly inaugurated Kotambi Stadium, which meets international standards. Opened in December 2024, the stadium successfully hosted a three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies women’s teams. Additionally, it has been a venue for senior Women’s T20 matches and Ranji Trophy games. To ensure readiness, Baroda is also hosting the knockout stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy under lights.
This marks a shift from the previous two WPL seasons. The inaugural tournament was entirely held in Mumbai across two venues, while the second edition was split between Bengaluru and Delhi. As the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Smriti Mandhana, will look to defend their title in the highly anticipated third season. Fans await an official announcement from the BCCI regarding final dates and venues.
