Ankit Bawne, the star batter of Maharashtra, who has scored 375 runs in six innings during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, suffered a ban in the Ranji Trophy. He has been suspended for one match following his dissent which came in the fifth round of the tournament when Maharashtra went against Services.

This decision regarding his suspension was further confirmed and he has been banned for the current match of Maharashtra against Baroda, which is being played in Nashik. The incident of his dissent came when he was caught off slip against Amit Shukla. Shubham Rohilla completed the catch but in the replays, it was shown that the ball had bounced before reaching his hand.

Since the match was live-streamed but not televised, there was no Decision Review System being made available. Due to this reason, Ankit Bawne refused to leave the field which led to the suspension of play for almost 15 minutes. It further continued when the match referee Amit Sharma and Maharashtra coach Sulakshan Kulkarni entered the field.

Following this game, coach Kulkarni talked about the incident saying:

Players are subject to fines and reprimand, what about proper assessment of umpires? Why do the same erring umpires continue to officiate and play spoilsport? When there are blunders of this nature, the anger is justified.
