Pat Cummins Set to Lead SRH in IPL 2025 After Injury Recovery

With the IPL 2025 season approaching, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have received a massive boost as their skipper Pat Cummins confirmed his availability for the tournament. The Australian captain, who has been sidelined for over a month due to an ankle injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has resumed training and aims to return to competitive cricket through the IPL. Speaking to Cricket.com.au, Cummins stated:

The ankle is starting to come good. It’s a funny one – it’s not like a hamstring where you need six weeks (to recover). It’s one of those ones where it really just needs a bit (more) rest to settle down. So we just ran out of time for Pakistan. It’s just one of those ones you’ve got to manage. A bit of a break now, hopefully, it sets it up for the next year or so. Physically it’s quite a nice build-up for the World Test Championship final, and then the Test matches after that. That’s the aim at this stage – start bowling over the next week or so, building up, and should be right for IPL.

SRH, who acquired Cummins for ₹20.5 crores in IPL 2024, saw him lead them to the finals in a remarkable season. The franchise retained him for ₹18 crores ahead of the 2025 season, making his fitness crucial for their campaign. Cummins emphasized that he would gradually build up his bowling workload over the next week and be match-ready for the IPL.

This news comes as a relief for SRH, as his absence would have left a significant void in their squad. Cummins’ return not only strengthens Hyderabad’s bowling attack but also boosts their leadership, enhancing their chances of another strong IPL run.
