Mohammed Shami Set to Play Two Ranji Trophy Matches for Bengal Before Australia Tour

Mohammed Shami is likely to make his return to the domestic format, playing two Ranji Trophy away games for Bengal before leaving for BGT 2024-25. He has not played for the Indian team since the ODI World Cup final against Australia.

Mohammed Shami, who has been out due to injury ever since the 2023 World Cup final against Australia looks ready to mark his return. It has been reported that Shami is now fit to play and will be playing the next two matches of the Ranji Trophy before he leaves for Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Bengal team management will be looking forward to having Shami play for them in the next two away fixtures. It is expected that he will return to play for Bengal in the upcoming match against Karnataka, which will be played in Bengaluru from November 6. He might also play the match against Madhya Pradesh, which will be in the fourth round.

Laxman Ratan Shukla, who is the coach of the Bengal cricket team, said,

He is not available for this match (vs Kerala), but we are hopeful that Shami will join us for games against Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

Talking further about his importance for the Indian team, Shukla said,

He is a valuable player for India and the team his service will be required for the Australia series. Recently, he mentioned how keen he is about playing a couple of Ranji games for Bengal before traveling to Australia. Good outings in the Ranji Trophy will be good for him ahead of the Australia tour and will be a big boost for us our four key players are playing for India and India A.
