India vs South Africa: Tilak Varma’s Maiden T20I Century Guides India to Thrilling Win Over South Africa

Tilak Varma's stunning maiden T20I century led India to a thrilling 11-run victory over South Africa in the third T20I at SuperSport Park. Varma's explosive 107* off 56 balls, featuring 8 fours and 7 sixes, was the highlight of India's innings as they posted a giant 218/5 after being put into bat first.

Varma anchored the innings brilliantly, sharing a vital 107-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma (50 off 25 balls). While other Indian batsmen struggled, Varma’s composed and aggressive knock kept India on track for a big total. His century was a testament to his maturity and ability to handle pressure, particularly in the absence of key contributions from others.

In the post-match presentation, Varma expressed his happiness and gratitude, reflecting on his breakthrough performance. His all-round skills, along with his composure, helped India set an imposing target. He said,

I am okay. It was a difficult chance but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it. All credit to Mr. Suryakumar Yadav, our captain. He gave me the opportunity to bat at 3 and told me to express myself. Thanks to him again (turns back at SKY and smiles). I just backed my basics. The pitch was two-paced to start with and it wasn’t easy for the new batters coming in when Abhishek got out. I was ready to bat long and was waiting for one.

Though South Africa mounted a spirited chase, led by Marco Jansen’s 54 off 17 balls, India’s bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh (3/37), held firm. Varma’s match-winning knock ultimately proved decisive as India clinched a narrow victory, with South Africa finishing at 208/7.
