For the Mumbai Indians in WPL 2025, captain Harmanpreet Kaur faced disciplinary action after being fined 10% of her match fee for showing dissent towards an umpire’s decision in a match against UP Warriorz at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. The incident occurred in the 19th over when umpire Ajitesh Argal informed her that, due to a slow over rate, only three fielders could remain outside the circle in the final over.

Unhappy with the ruling, Harmanpreet engaged in a brief argument with the umpire, with teammate Amelia Kerr also joining the discussion. The situation escalated when UP Warriorz all-rounder Sophie Ecclestone stepped in, leading to a heated exchange before square-leg umpire N Janani and UP captain Deepti Sharma intervened.

Harmanpreet admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the WPL Code of Conduct, which deals with dissent against umpiring decisions. Former India captain Mithali Raj commented on the incident, explaining that Mumbai Indians were four minutes behind the required over rate, leading to the penalty. She noted that such moments can be frustrating for a captain already making tactical adjustments. Despite the controversy, the match continued, with WPL officials confirming the fine as the final disciplinary action.
