The first T20 match between Bangladesh and West Indies reached a stage where the visitors narrowly edged out a victory by 7 runs in a thrilling contest at the Arnos Vale Ground. After suffering three consecutive ODI defeats, Bangladesh bounced back by posting a competitive total of 147/6.

Soumya Sarkar’s blistering 43 off 32 balls provided the initial momentum, while contributions from Jaker Ali (27), Mahedi Hasan (26*), and Shamim Hossain (27) proved crucial in the latter stages. Defending a modest target, Bangladesh’s Mahedi Hasan turned the game with a stellar bowling display during the powerplay, taking 4 key wickets, including Nicholas Pooran and Johnson Charles, and leaving West Indies reeling at 39/5.

Despite the early setbacks, Rovman Powell launched a counter-attack, scoring aggressively with Romario Shepherd, reducing the target to 20 off 18 balls. However, Bangladesh’s pacers held their nerve in the death overs. Taskin Ahmed removed Shepherd (22), and in the final over, Hasan Mahmud dismissed Powell and Alzarri Joseph, sealing the victory.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit, led by Mahedi and Mahmud, ensured West Indies couldn’t capitalize on Powell’s heroics. The win marked a much-needed morale boost for Bangladesh after their ODI setbacks.
