Kohli recently scored his 51st ODI century against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy on February 23, reaching 14,000 ODI runs in just 287 innings — the fastest to do so. He is now only 149 runs behind Kumar Sangakkara but still needs 4,341 more to break Tendulkar’s record of 18,426 runs.
Ponting praised Kohli’s fitness, hunger, and consistency, stating that if his motivation remained, he could achieve the milestone. Despite Kohli’s dominance, Ponting highlighted Tendulkar’s incredible longevity, noting that even at his peak, Kohli remains over 4,000 runs behind.
