Kauthankar, 29, surpassed his previous high score of 250 from last week’s match against Mizoram, reaching his first triple century in just 205 balls against Arunachal’s struggling bowlers. With 43 fours and four sixes, he entered the lunch break on Day 2 unbeaten at 305, while his partner Kashyap Bakle remained on 280 not out.

Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal delivered a similar blow to Arunachal last year, scoring a triple century in just 147 balls, the fastest in First-Class cricket history. During his innings, Agarwal also broke a 39 year old record held by Indian legend Ravi Shastri, reaching the fastest double century in just 119 balls, an impressive feat in First-Class cricket.

Kauthankar now ranks third on the all time for fastest triple centuries in First-Class cricket. Only Marco Marais of South Africa sits between him and Tanmay Agarwal. Marais achieved a 191 ball triple century for Border against Eastern Province in the 2017-18 season, placing him second on the list just ahead of Kauthankar.

After Arunachal’s low first innings score of 84, Kauthankar came in at No.4 and built an enormous partnership with Kashyap Bakle, who is also close to a triple century. Kauthankar reached 200 in just 146 balls, making it the fourth fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history, before quickly heading toward 300.
