Mohammad Kaif Raises Concerns Over Jasprit Bumrah’s Potential Captaincy Amid Injury and Responsibility Risks

India’s only win in the series came in Perth under Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy, where they achieved a dominant 295-run victory over Australia. Bumrah took over as captain for the fifth Test after Rohit Sharma was dropped due to poor form. However, India lost the match in Sydney by six wickets, resulting in a series defeat.

During the Sydney match, Jasprit Bumrah experienced a back spasm and had to leave the field during Australia’s first innings. Although he returned to bat in India’s second innings, he couldn’t play in the final innings. With Rohit Sharma’s future uncertain, Bumrah might take over the captaincy.

Mohammad Kaif shared his concerns on social media about Jasprit Bumrah becoming the full-time captain of the Indian team. He advised the BCCI to carefully consider their decision before appointing Bumrah as the captain. He said:

BCCI shd think twice before appointing Bumrah as full-time captain. He needs to solely focus on taking wkts and staying fit. Added leadership responsibility, getting carried away in the heat of the moment can result in injuries and shorten an outstanding career. Don’t kill the golden goose.

Mohammad Kaif suggested that Bumrah should prioritize taking wickets and staying fit, as the added responsibility of captaincy might increase the risk of injuries. He advised the Indian board not to risk the career of such a talented player by burdening him with the captaincy.
