India Women’s Cricket Team Set for Ambitious Future, New FTP Cycle and Global Representation
On November 4, the international Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the Future Tours Program (FTP) for the India's women's team covering the 2025 to 2029 period. The ICC announced the complete schedule for this upcoming cycle, outlining the matches and events planned for the women's team in the coming years.
A major change is the inclusion of a new team in the ICC Women’s Championship. Currently, 10 teams compete, but this number will rise to 11 with the addition of Zimbabwe. The ICC said that bringing Zimbabwe on board is an important move to enhance global representation in women’s cricket and promote the sport worldwide.
During the new cycle of the Women’s Championship, each team will play four series at home and four away. This FTP cycle will include 44 series in total. Each series will consist of three matches, leading to a total of 132 runs One Day International (ODIs) played. The championship will end with the 2029 Cricket World Cup.
Starting in 2025, there will be an ICC event every year. Teams will compete in the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025, followed by the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026. In 2027, the Champions Trophy will take place and the T20 World Cup will follow in 2028.
The India women’s cricket team will start its FTP cycle in January 2025 and continue until December 2028, leading up to the 2029 ODI World Cup. During this period, they will play five tests, 36 ODIs and 30 T20Is. Their first series will be against Ireland at home, followed by tours to England and Australia and hosting Bangladesh in December 2025.
