On Wednesday, November 27, at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney, Hobart Hurricanes faced Sydney Thunder in the knockout match. Captain Elyse Villani chose to bat after winning the toss. The team strengthened their batting lineup by including aggressive opener Ruth Johnston for this crucial, must-win game.

In the third over, Shabnim Ismail bowled a fast bouncer to Ruth Johnston, who attempted to pull but was rushed by the pace. She edged the ball, which flew straight up in the air. In a bizarre turn of events, the ball landed on the crease and hit the stumps, dismissing Johnston in an unusual manner. Here is the video for the same.

As the ball flew up, Ruth Johnston stopped and quickly turned around to react, but it was too late. Shabnim Ismail raced towards the stumps, trying to make a catch, but the ball landed and hit the stumps before either player could do anything. The unusual dismissal left both players and fans confused and stunned.

Elyse Villani and Suzi Bates steadied the Hobart innings, with Villani hitting boundaries frequently. In the 16th over, they chose the Power Surge, adding 23 runs and taking their partnership past 50. However, Peschel broke the 54-run stand by dismissing Bates for 17 in her final over.
