Fennell Sets New Milestone for Argentina with T20I Double Hat-trick

Argentina's Hernan Fennell made history by achieving a T20I double hat-trick during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifier against the Cayman Islands on December 15, 2024. Fennell took four wickets in four consecutive deliveries, joining an exclusive group of six players, including Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga. The Men’s T20 has got just another record added as Argentina’s seamer, Hernan Fennell, joined an elite group of players by claiming a double hat-trick during his side’s match against the Cayman Islands in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifier. Fennell achieved the remarkable feat by taking four wickets in four consecutive deliveries in the final over of the Cayman Islands’ innings. This made him the sixth player in men’s T20I history to complete a double hat-trick.

Fennell’s four wickets came in quick succession, starting with Troy Taylor, followed by Alistair Ifill, Ronald Ebanks, and Alessandro Morris. His remarkable spell of 5/14 helped him join the ranks of bowlers like Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga, Curtis Campher, Jason Holder, and Waseem Yaqoobr, all of whom had previously achieved a double hat-trick in T20I cricket.

In addition, Fennell became the sixth player in men’s T20I history to take multiple hat-tricks, having previously achieved the feat in 2021 against Panama. Despite his stellar performance, Argentina could not capitalize, getting all out for just 94 in reply to the Cayman Islands 116.
