The former fast-paced South African bowler Dale Steyn has joined the England Lions team as their bowling consultant on a short-term basis. The young players of the team will be travelling to South Africa for a series, when Steyn also joins them as the bowling consultant.
This will be the first tour of the England Lions team under Andrew Flintoff, and he wants the team to be strong overseas, due to which he helped Steyn to bring the experience to the team when they will be playing in South Africa. The squad for England Lions was named by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), where there were 19 members in the team. Out of these, 10 are the pace bowlers.
Among them, two international players Josh Hull and Pat Brown, will also be a part of the team, in the upcoming training camp. Later, they will go on to play against the South Africa A team in a four-day match, which will be played in the Western Province. John Turner and Dillon Pennington who have been a part of the England team, have also been called up for the squad of England Lions.
The other pacers who are a part of the team includes Zaman Akhtar, Kasey Aldridge, Henry Crocombe, Tom Lawes, Harry Moore and Mitchell Stanley. Dale Steyn will be working closely with the pacers, to help England build up a strong bowling unit shortly, which also takes wickets overseas.
