Doug Bracewell played a crucial role in Central Districts six wicket win over Wellington in a T20 match. He was named man of the match after taking 2/21 with the ball, scoring an unbeaten 30 off 11 balls and taking two catches. His all-round performance helped secure the victory for his team.

The Sports Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui clarified that Dough Bracewell’s drug use happened outside of competition and was not related to his performance in the domestic game. The New Zealand Sports Tribunal confirmed in a statement that it was acknowledged Bracewell used cocaine for reasons unrelated to improving his sports performance.

Doug Bracewell was initially given a three month ban, but it was reduced to one month after he successfully completed a treatment program. As the suspension was backdated to April 2024, Bracewell has already served his ban and is now allowed to return to cricket right sway.

Meanwhile, Heath Mills, the chief executive of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association, stated:

As a professional cricketer, Doug knows the doping rules he is subject to. While in no way attempting to gain any performance enhancement, his decision has nevertheless resulted in him missing several playing opportunities whilst this matter has been dealt with, and it reflects poorly on our environment.
