Madan Lal, the former Indian cricketer who played for the 1983 World Cup-winning team, expressed his views on the return of Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the domestic format. Kohli and Rohit will mark their return to the Ranji Trophy in the 2024-25 season, as their slump in form continued in the Test format.

He said that this could help the legendary stars to be connected with the tournament that shaped their careers. After almost a decade, Rohit Sharma will be marking his return to the Ranji trophy, as he has been included in Mumbai’s team for the upcoming match against Jammu and Kashmir. He played the last Ranji match in the 2015-16 season.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is also confirmed to be part of Delhi’s team for their upcoming match against Railways, according to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). This will be Kohli’s first appearance in the Ranji Trophy after his last match in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh, where he scored 14 and 42 runs, respectively.

In an interview, Madan Lal said:

I’m so happy that all these players are going to play first class. You need to play matches in the tournament which has made you the player. You should play domestic matches whenever you get a chance, because, the young players can learn from you. Maybe someday in the future, these players will become great players.
