Uncertainty Looms Over Akash Deep’s Cricketing Future Amid Injuries and Competition

The Bengal team will play against Haryana on January 9 in Vadodara without Akash Deep. The India National Cricket Team fast bowler is sidelined due to an injury he sustained during the fourth game of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.

Although Akash Deep was included in the India squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he did not play in the series. The team management chose Harshit Rana instead for the first two matches held in Perth and Adelaide.

Concerns have been raised about Akash Deep’s future, as reported by the Telegraph. A BCCI official mentioned that if the pacer remains inconsistent in securing a spot in the playing XI, it will be challenging for him to establish himself in the India National Cricket Team.

Akash Deep has been dealing with a troublesome back issue since 2019, which adds to the pressure of maintaining strong performances. With Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana performing well, Deep’s future appears uncertain. His injury is the second for the India team after the Test series against Australia, as Jasprit Bumrah also got injured, with no clear update on his recovery yet.
