Twitter in Splits as Rohit and Kohli’s ODI Return Ends in a Meme Fest
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli marked their return to the ODI format after months. But the comeback game was not as good as the fans expected, with both players going for low scores. This also started a meme war on X, as fans waited for a long time for them.

After 224 days or more than 7 months, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made their comeback to the ODI format. They had last played together for the Indian team in the Champions Trophy 2025 finals, after which they announced retirement from the ODI format. Fans waited for months to watch them perform on the Australian tour.

The first match was anticipated, as it was to be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. But what was expected to be a thriller comeback for both of them turned out to be a day to forget for the Indian fans. Rohit Sharma got out for just 8 runs, while Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck. This has erupted into a meme war on X, as fans are using the platform to express their raw emotions.
London Calls
For Virat Kohli, there has been one common meme whenever he goes out for a low score. Fans have been trolling him for shifting to London, and this also happened when Kohli made his comeback to the ODI format. This time, fans had a lot of expectations from the King as he returned to his kingdom.

But things did not go as planned, with Kohli registering his first duck in Australia. To this, a Twitter user used the famous Panvel meme. He tweeted the meme using Virat Kohli’s face to say, “Jaldi out kar, London Nikalna hai”. It was remarked that the London memes are back for Kohli.
Happiest Person Right Now
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fans used to target Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir to a great extent. When both of the players were about to make their comeback, fans made a lot of hype. Targeting Gambhir and Agarkar, they made plans for how RoKo could dominate in Australia.

But with Rohit and Virat failing to score well, Twitter users have gone into splits. One of them tweeted an image of Gambhir and Agarkar together. To this, he also mentioned that Gambhir and Agarkar are asking the RoKo fans how they are feeling right now.
Sunday Ain’t Sundaying
Indian fans were very excited for this Sunday, as it marked the comeback of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With the match being at 9 AM IST, it was known that their Sunday would be with less sleep, as they would be waking up early for the game. The wait for months finally came to an end on 19 October.

But this time their Sunday was spoiled, with Rohit and Kohli falling for low scores. To this, a Twitter user might have showcased the raw emotions of Indian fans who woke up early for the same. He used the meme of Carryminati, saying, “Sunday Barbaad Bhaisahab”.
Kohli’s Attendance
Virat Kohli has been known by the fans for scoring runs in Australia. And with ODI being his favourite format, they had much more expectations with him when he made a comeback to the game on 19 October. Still, it should be noted that things don’t always go as planned, which happened in the case of Kohli.

He got out for a duck, which was also his first in ODIs in Australia. To this, a Twitter user said that Virat Kohli went out for a duck without disturbing the scorer to add runs. He also added that maybe Kohli was just for attendance in this game, with the iconic Bollywood meme.
Was the Wait Worth It?
Virat fans had to wait for a long time to watch their idol back on the cricket field. Kohli last played a match in the IPL, where he scored 43 runs in the finals. After that, the fans had to wait for 4 months and 16 days to watch the King back in the game and play for the Indian team.

However, Virat Kohli’s comeback was spoiled by Mitchell Starc, as he got out for a duck. To this, a Twitter user used the photo of Mohammed Siraj, which went viral after he was spotted sad in the team’s travels. He portrayed the reaction of every Kohli fan, who waited for 4 months and 16 days, just to watch him being dismissed for a duck.
Time to Sleep Again
When the match is being played in Australia, Indian fans would have to sacrifice some of their sleep. This happened in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, when fans woke up early at 5:30 AM IST, and now it happened again in the India vs Australia ODI match, with fans waking up at 9 AM IST. Their main objective was to watch RoKo dominate with the bat.

A Twitter user described almost every Indian fan perfectly using just one image. He posted an image where Donald Duck woke up and watched Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being dismissed cheaply. After watching their wicket, he must have known that there was no need to stay awake now, so he went back to sleep again.
Format Changed, Kohli Didn’t
The Indian team last visited Australia a few months back for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It turned out to be the worst for Virat Kohli, as he lost his wicket every time to an outside off-stump delivery. This time, he made a return to the same country against the same opponent, but in a different format.

Still, things might not have changed for Virat Kohli this time, too. He struggled with the outside off stump delivery, and while attempting a shot against Starc, he lost his wicket. This reminded Virat Kohli fans of what happened in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Now they wonder how the remaining two matches will go for Kohli in this series.
Continuation of BGT?
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy didn’t go well for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Eventually, it turned out to be their last Test series in the international format, as they announced their retirement a few months later. Watching the first ODI match against Australia saw both of them being dismissed for cheap scores.

To this, a Twitter user reacted with an image of Virat and Rohit together, asking each other whether this is the sixth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Looking at their form and ways of losing wickets, fans might be looking at it as a repeat telecast of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
GG Era?
Fans have been considering Gautam Gambhir as the main reason why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from the Test format. Neither of them performed well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. And just before the India tour of England, both of them announced their retirements via Instagram story and post.
— ANU YADAV (@amitMau75477399) October 19, 2025
Fans waited for their comeback in the ODI format to silence Gautam Gambhir with their bat. But the performances have silenced both stars themselves. To this, a Twitter user used the image of Gautam Gambhir with a smile on his face. He mentioned Gambhir saying that two more games like this, and they will surely post retirement stories.
Rohit’s Cricket Work Missing?
Over the last few months, there has been one topic of interest for every Indian fan, and it was the fitness of Rohit Sharma. To maintain his spot in the Indian team, Rohit Sharma lost weight and maintained his diet. This helped him to pass the fitness test and be a part of the Indian side in the ODI format.

This made the fans excited that his Daddy Hundreds era would be back. Their hopes were soon shattered, watching Rohit Sharma being dismissed for just 8 runs, against Josh Hazlewood. A Twitter user gave a taunt to the Hitman, that he worked on his fitness, but didn’t work on cricket.
500th International Match
Rohit Sharma was set to play his 500th international match. Fans and even the players were excited, as it was a great milestone for the Hitman. And to make it memorable, fans wanted him to make a big score to etch his name in the history books.

But the Australian bowlers soon spoiled the party. Josh Hazlewood took his wicket after Rohit had just scored 8 runs, making his 500th international game a nightmare for him. A Twitter user used the famous Indian song, Kya se Kya ho gaya, to determine Rohit’s situation, but also added a line to it on his own.
Is 2019 Back?
The matches against Australia have been hurting the Indian fans since the 2023 World Cup final. After India had lost the final match, the edits of some moments were compiled together. The song which went trending after the loss was Choo Lo, and especially the line, “Khada hu Aaj bhi wahin”.

— Satyam (@Satyam22tweets) October 19, 2025
Now, the Indian fans think it is again time to remember the lines of that song for more edits. Watching Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failing to perform well in the first ODI, a Twitter user used an emotional Jerry image to describe his emotions.
