The Real Reason Why Virat Kohli Hasn’t Posted About India’s Champions Trophy Win!

Cricket has witnessed some of the greatest players in history, but few have left a mark quite like Virat Kohli. The backbone of Indian cricket and a master of run chases, Kohli has thrilled fans with his incredible performances for both India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

However, the last few years have been a rollercoaster for him. Between 2020 and 2022, he struggled with form, lost his captaincy across formats, and faced immense criticism. These challenges deeply affected him, leading to a noticeable change as Kohli drastically reduced his social media activity, leaving fans heartbroken. Once known for sharing glimpses of his life, the star batter has gone silent online. But what’s the real reason behind this sudden change? Let’s look into the story behind his social media absence.

Virat Kohli Breaks Silence on His Social Media Absence

Virat Kohli was once very active on social media, regularly sharing updates about his training, team activities, and personal moments with fans. His presence on platforms like Instagram and Twitter made fans feel connected to him, and they loved seeing glimpses of his life beyond the cricket field. However, things changed after the tough period between 2020 and 2022 when he struggled with form, lost his captaincy, and faced immense criticism. Since then, Kohli has significantly reduced his social media activity, leaving fans disappointed. Many even accused him of only posting advertisements rather than personal updates.

Posting about us winning the Champions Trophy is not going to increase the happiness in my heart. They all know that we’ve won the trophy, so me posting about it is not going to give us two trophies. The reality is going to stay the same. Technology, when not attached to a goal, can be quite distracting. It is something I have experienced in my playing career.

The latest example of this was after India’s ICC Champions Trophy victory on March 9, 2025. While the entire team and fans celebrated the win, Kohli did not post anything about it, leaving many wondering why. Addressing this, Kohli finally explained his decision to stay away from social media.

Luckily, I grew up in a time when you didn’t have this thing in your pocket (smartphone). It is much easier to keep it on the side. I don’t engage and post a lot these days and people are not happy about that. It is something that I have consciously tried to do. To keep up with that for me was way too much. It was taking away a lot of energy from me because I could utilise that in my game or life.

He shared that over time, he realized how social media can have a negative impact on players. He mentioned that while fans support and cheer, they also express strong opinions that can sometimes affect a player’s mental state. For him, staying away from social media allows him to focus entirely on his game without unnecessary distractions. He admitted that while he appreciates the love from fans, he prefers to spend his time training and improving rather than scrolling through online opinions. Kohli made it clear that his priority remains cricket, and avoiding social media helps him stay in the right mindset.

Has Virat Kohli Lost His Aggression?

For the fans who love Virat Kohli’s aggression, the Indian cricket star recently spoke about how his on-field intensity has changed over time. Kohli admitted that his aggression has naturally reduced, but his hunger to compete remains as strong as ever. He also mentioned that no matter what approach he takes, there is always criticism that earlier, people had issues with his aggression, and now they question his calmer nature. He said:

It’s naturally kind of getting tapered down again…People are not happy about that either. I don’t know what to do, to be honest. Earlier, my aggression was a problem, now my calmness is a problem. It’s like, I have no idea what needs to be done, that’s why I don’t focus on it much. The kind of person I am, the kind of personality I have, yes, I do have tendencies to kind of go overboard. And I’ve never shied away from that. But the starting point is, okay, sometimes it might not have gone out with the right intent, but more often than not, the starting point has been of care. I want this all to be an event that helps my team win.

Kohli explained that his aggressive reactions on the field have always come from a place of passion for his team’s success. While there were times when his emotions got the better of him, his intention was always to push his team forward. He recalled moments where his animated celebrations after a crucial wicket were simply his way of expressing excitement and energy.

However, Kohli pointed out that being competitive does not always mean being outwardly aggressive. He believes that a player can be just as intense and determined without showing excessive emotions on the field. Many struggle to understand this, assuming that a calmer Kohli means a less competitive one, which he insists is not true. The former Indian captain also acknowledged that there have been instances where frustration got the better of him, and he regrets those moments. He further stated that:

My competitiveness has not gone down. So, I think for a lot of people, it’s very difficult to process how is the competitiveness going to be at the same level if the aggression is not. You can still be aggressive in your mind, but you don’t necessarily need to express it out there every now and then out of frustration, which I have – I mean, in the recent past as well, which is not a great thing, to be honest, I don’t feel great about those things myself.

He now focuses on channeling his emotions in a more controlled way, ensuring that his passion benefits the team rather than becoming a distraction. Despite this change in approach, Kohli remains one of cricket’s fiercest competitors. Whether aggressive or composed, his commitment to the game and his desire to win remain unchanged, making him one of the most influential figures in world cricket.

Will Virat Kohli Return for Another Tour of Australia?

For Virat Kohli, coming up with a loss against Australia in the recent tour was one of the most disappointing moments of his career. He compared it to the frustration he faced during India’s 2014 England tour, where he failed to score a single half-century in 10 innings. In Australia, Kohli managed just 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, despite starting the series with a strong unbeaten 100 in Perth. However, he struggled with deliveries outside the off-stump, leading to frequent dismissals in the slips or by the wicketkeeper. He said:

If you ask me the intensity of how disappointed I’ve been, the most recent Australia tour would be the one that’s most fresh. So it might feel the most intense to me. For a long time, the tour of England in 2014 bothered me the most. But I can’t look at it that way. I might not have an Australia tour again in four years. I don’t know. You have to make peace with whatever’s happened in your life. In 2014, I still had the chance to go in 2018 and do what I did. It might not have been the case. It might have been another blunder. But it didn’t turn out that way.

On this, Kohli admitted that he found it difficult to process the disappointment. He revealed that as the tour progressed, the pressure to perform increased, making him over-eager to correct mistakes in every innings. He emphasized that external expectations often intensify personal disappointment, and learning to manage that is key. He further added:

So, there’s no such guarantees in life. I think when you are at a stage for a long period of time, when you perform, people get used to your performances. They start feeling for you more than you feel sometimes. This has to be corrected.

Kohli also shared insights from a conversation with Rahul Dravid, who advised him to stay in touch with himself and not rush into career decisions. While Kohli acknowledged that doubts may creep in after a lean phase, he clarified that his love for the game remains strong. He assured fans that he is not considering retirement yet, emphasizing that as long as he enjoys playing cricket, he will continue.
