Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Mohammed Shami’s Stellar Return and Border Gavaskar Trophy Challenge
Senior Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami showcased his batting prowess by smashing an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls for Bengal in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy pre-quarter-final against Chandigarh at Bengaluru on Monday.
Shami’s aggressive innings, which included three fours and two sixes, came in the death overs as he dominated the Chandigarh bowlers. Coming in when Bengal was in trouble at 114 for 8 in the 16th over, Shami’s powerful hitting lifted his team to 159 for 9 with a striking rate of 188.24.
Pradipta Pramanik contributed 30 runs off 24 balls, while Writtick Chatterjee scored 28 off 12 balls, propelling Bengal to 159 after being asked to bat first by Chandigarh. Mohammed Shami, with 33 runs off 25 balls, was the second-highest scorer, providing a vital boost to the team’s score.

Shami is expected to join the Indian team for the last two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, but he still needs to receive fitness clearance from the NCA’s medical team. This process is seen as a mere formality before he can take the field.
