Sri Lanka cricket has been shaken by the arrest of 26-year-old cricketer Ashen Bandara on March 9, following allegations of assaulting his neighbor over a parking dispute. The incident occurred in Kolamunna, Piliyandala, where Bandara allegedly trespassed into his neighbor’s house and physically attacked him after a heated argument about a blocked road. Sri Lanka Police confirmed the altercation and arrested Bandara on suspicion, though he was released on bail the same day. He is set to appear in court on March 12.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley De Silva stated that the board is reviewing the incident before deciding on disciplinary action. Bandara is not centrally contracted but plays for Police SC in the National Super League. If found guilty of bringing SLC into disrepute, he could face consequences.

Bandara, known for his fielding skills, made his international debut in 2021, playing six ODIs and six T20Is. He has scored 141 ODI runs at an average of 35.25, including two half-centuries, and 97 T20I runs at 24.25. His last international match was in October 2023, and he last played competitively on February 14, 2024, scoring 51 runs for Police SC in the Major League Tournament.
