The ODI series between India and England is set to begin in Nagpur, but all eyes were on Rohit Sharma’s press conference ahead of the opener. The Indian captain, known for his calm demeanour, lost his patience when questioned about his recent form and future with the national team after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit, who struggled in Tests last year with 619 runs at an average of 24.76 in 26 innings, has also faced criticism despite scoring 1154 runs across formats in 2024 at an average of 31.18. When asked about his form, he strongly defended himself, stating that each format is different and that ups and downs are part of every cricketer’s journey. He said:

What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, a different time. As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs, and I have faced a lot in my career, so this is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series. There is no reason to look back too much. I must focus on what is coming up and what lies ahead for me. It is as simple as that. Look to try and start the series on a high.

His frustration peaked when asked about his future beyond the Champions Trophy. Dismissing speculation, Rohit insisted that his focus is solely on the three ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy, where India will play their matches in Dubai, UAE. He refused to discuss retirement rumours, emphasizing that he is fully committed to the upcoming tournaments. As India prepares to face England, Rohit aims for a fresh start in ODIs, looking to silence his critics and lead the team with a strong performance.
