In Women’s cricket, Laura Wolvaardt has made history by becoming the youngest woman to play 100 ODI matches, surpassing Mithali Raj’s previous record. At 25 years and 226 days, Wolvaardt broke Raj’s record of 25 years and 273 days, marking a significant milestone in her career.

Wolvaardt is the 10th South African woman to achieve this feat, having debuted in February 2016 at the age of 16. She quickly made her mark by scoring her first ODI fifty in just her second match and later her maiden century in 2016, becoming the youngest South African to do so.

Wolvaardt has accumulated 4,242 runs in 100 ODIs and became the youngest South African to reach 1,000 ODI runs in January 2018. She was South Africa’s top run-scorer in the 2022 ODI World Cup.

Despite her personal achievement, her 100th ODI ended in a defeat as South Africa was bowled out for 135 runs, losing to England by six wickets. However, Wolvaardt’s exceptional contributions to South African cricket remain undeniable. The third ODI, a decider, will be played on December 11.
