Manoj Tiwary Blasts Gautam Gambhir, Calls Him “Hypocrite” After India’s BGT 2024 Debacle!
Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary criticized India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, labeling him a "hypocrite", after India’s poor performance in the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Tiwary accused Gambhir of favoritism, pointing to his close ties with Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar. Under Gambhir, India suffered a series loss to Sri Lanka and a 3-0 home defeat against New Zealand, raising concerns about his leadership.
Gautam Gambhir’s former teammate, Manoj Tiwary, has labeled him a “hypocrite” following India’s disappointing performance in the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia. Speaking to News18 Bangla, Tiwary criticized Gambhir’s coaching approach and accused him of favoritism, particularly highlighting his choices of support staff like Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar. Tiwary argued that these appointments appeared to be influenced by regional biases rather than merit. He said:
What is the benefit of having a bowling coach if his suggestions are merely nodded at? Morne Morkel, who joined from Lucknow Super Giants, and Abhishek Nayar, a former colleague of Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders, seem to be entrenched in a comfort zone. Gautam Gambhir is indeed a hypocrite. He preaches certain values but does not practice them himself. With Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Nayar both hailing from Mumbai, it appears they have been disproportionately elevated within the team structure to manage the mounting pressure.
Tiwary also questioned Gambhir’s leadership, pointing to discord with captain Rohit Sharma and the lack of synergy between them. He claimed that Gambhir often took undue credit for Kolkata Knight Riders’ past successes, which were a result of team efforts from players like Jacques Kallis and Sunil Narine.
Gambhir’s tenure as head coach has been marred by setbacks, including a home Test series loss to New Zealand and a 3-1 defeat in the BGT. Despite occasional wins, such as in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh, the team has struggled for consistency. With India set to face strong opponents in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, including Pakistan and New Zealand, pressure is mounting on Gambhir to deliver results and improve India’s recent track record.
