Mitchell Santner took his career best figures, by taking 7 wickets and conceding just 53 runs in the second innings. He took some crucial wickets, by dismissing players like Gill, Kohli, Sarfaraz, and four others.
On the second day of the second Test match between India and New Zealand, Mitchell Santner came out to be a turning point for the team, turning the game towards New Zealand with his bowling skills. Since the match was being played at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune, Santner took the advantage of the spin-friendly conditions.
The day started with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal being at the crease for India. They had given a great start to the game for the team, having a 50 runs partnership at the start of the day. However, this partnership came to an end with Mitchell Santner taking the wicket of Shubman Gill.
This came out to be an important breakthrough for the Kiwis, as he later went on dismissing Virat Kohli in the most unexpected way possible. The main batsman of the team, Kohli, was sent back to the pavilion by Mitchell Santner at the score of 1 run in 9 balls.
He later went on to take all the wickets of the lower order of the team, which shows how much he had troubled the Indian batsmen at their home ground. He took some important wickets by dismissing Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ravindra Jadeja. Santner ended his spell by taking 7 wickets for just 53 runs. This also led to India losing all wickets at the score of 156.
