IND vs AUS: India Keeps WTC Final Hopes Alive with Dominant Win Over Australia
India kept their hopes lf reaching a third consecutive World Test Championship final alive by winning the first Test against Australia. Led by Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian team triumphed by 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Monday, November 25.
Australia started fourth day at 12-3, with Usman Khawaja on 3 and Steve Smith on 0. Khawaja was out without adding any runs, while Smith scored 17 runs off 60 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the first session.
Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh fought hard but fell short of their milestones. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj each took three wickets, while Washington Sundar claimed two. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy took his first Test wicket by dismissing Mitchell Marsh, marking a memorable moment in his debut match.
India’s point percentage in the World Test Championship table rose from 58.33 to 61.11 after their win over Australia. On the other hand, Australia’s PCT dropped from 62.50 to 57.69. The two teams will play four more Test matches in the series, which are crucial for both to secure a spot in the top two positions in the WTC table.
The Indian cricket team reached the finals in the first twk editions of the World Test Championship but lost both times. In the 2023 edition, Australia made it to the final and defeated India to win their first World Test Championship title under Pat Cummins captaincy.
