Her clean striking found boundaries with ease, setting a strong tone. Meg Lanning, the experienced Australian batter, was even more destructive, scoring 36 runs off 19 balls, including six fours and one six, at a strike rate of 189.47. Hannah Baker, the young spinner emerged as their standout performer, taking two crucial wickets for 24 runs in 20 balls at an economy of 1.20 runs per ball. She dismissed Lanning on the 40th ball, caught by Emma Lamb after Lanning attempted another big shot. Baker then removed Winfield-Hill on the 52nd ball, caught by Ellyse Perry, breaking the opening partnership and slightly slowing the Invincibles’ momentum. Em Arlott also contributed effectively, taking two wickets for 25 runs in 15 balls, including the dismissals of Alice Capsey and Amanda-Jade Wellington late in the innings. Megan Schutt, the Australian pacer, bowled tightly, conceding 34 runs for one wicket in 20 balls.
Captain Ellyse Perry went wicketless but maintained control with an economy of 1.70 runs per ball. After the openers departed, Alice Capsey took centre stage. The 20-year-old England all-rounder batted at number three and played a blistering knock of 52 runs off 29 balls. Her innings featured eight fours and one six, with a strike rate of 179.31, showcasing her power and timing. Capsey dominated both spinners and seamers, finding gaps effortlessly and accelerating the scoring rate. She formed a 16-run partnership with Winfield-Hill before the skipper’s dismissal and then added 21 runs with Marizanne Kapp for the third wicket. Kapp, the South African all-rounder, contributed 13 runs off 9 balls with two fours at a strike rate of 144.44 before being caught by Ailsa Lister off Schutt on the 69th ball.
As the innings moved into its final stages, Paige Scholfield joined Capsey, forming a vital 57-run partnership for the fourth wicket in just 29 balls. Scholfield remained unbeaten on 25 runs off 16 balls, hitting three fours and one six at a strike rate of 156.25. She played a supporting role while Capsey attacked, pushing the Invincibles’ total toward the 170-mark. Joanne Gardner finished the innings with a quick 4 runs off 1 ball, striking a four. Extras contributed 11 runs, including 1 bye, 4 no-balls, and 6 wides, helping the Invincibles reach 174 for 5. The team’s run rate stood at an impressive 1.74 per ball, with a total of 25 boundaries (24 fours and 1 six from batters, plus extras). The Phoenix bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, particularly during the powerplay, where the Invincibles scored freely. Georgia Voll bowled just 5 balls, conceding 20 runs, including a six. Millie Taylor gave away 25 runs in 15 balls without taking a wicket. Emma Lamb’s 5 balls cost 11 runs.
Birmingham Phoenix’s Innings
Chasing 175 in 100 balls required a run rate of 1.75 per ball. The Phoenix started positively, but early wickets and disciplined bowling from the Invincibles disrupted their momentum. Georgia Voll opened aggressively, scoring 22 runs off 14 balls with four fours at a strike rate of 157.14. However, she fell on the 17th ball, caught by Wellington off Marizanne Kapp, setting a challenging tone for the chase. Emma Lamb, batting at number two, tried to stabilize the innings, scoring 25 runs off 19 balls with two fours at a strike rate of 131.57. She formed a brief 6-run stand with Marie Kelly, who managed only 3 runs off 6 balls before being caught by Sophia Smale off Wellington on the 24th ball.

Then came Ellyse Perry, the Phoenix captain and their biggest hope. The Australian superstar played a fiery knock of 29 runs off 16 balls with three fours and one six at a strike rate of 181.25. Perry and Lamb added 49 runs for the third wicket in 29 balls, taking the Phoenix to 80 for 3 by the 53rd ball. Perry looked in ominous form, smashing boundaries off the seamers, but her innings ended when she edged one to Winfield-Hill off Wellington. With Perry gone, the chase faltered. Lamb was run out on the 59th ball for 25, thanks to sharp fielding by Phoebe Franklin and Wellington, leaving the Phoenix at 83 for 4.
Amy Jones, the wicketkeeper-batter, came in and scored 21 runs off 21 balls with two fours at a strike rate of 100.00, but she struggled to accelerate as needed. She partnered with Ailsa Lister for a crucial 55-run fifth-wicket stand in 33 balls, which included some late aggression. Lister shone in the death overs, remaining unbeaten on 33 runs off 18 balls with four fours and one six at a strike rate of 183.33. Her hitting in the final 10 balls pushed the total past 150, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
Em Arlott contributed a quick 3 runs off 4 balls before being caught by Franklin off Tash Farrant on the 98th ball. Sterre Kalis finished unbeaten on 8 runs off 2 balls, hitting two fours. Extras added 8 runs, with 4 byes, 2 leg byes, and 2 wides. The Phoenix reached 152 for 6 with a run rate of 1.52 per ball. They hit 17 fours and 2 sixes, but lost momentum in the middle phase of the innings.
