In the Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Final, South Africa secured an impressive 8-wicket victory over Australia, earning a spot in the finals. While chasing a target of 135 runs, Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch formed a crucial 96-run partnership, with Bosch leading the charge by scoring 74 runs off just 48 balls.
After the match, skipper Laura Wolvaardt was thrilled about the historic win and Bosch’s outstanding performance. Being at the other end during their 96-run partnership allowed Wolvaardt to see Bosch’s fireworks up close. Their aggressive batting was crucial for South Africa’s victory. Bosch’s innings also proved that moving her to the no. 3 spot was the right choice, even though some had doubts about it with Marizanne Kapp’s success there.
In the Post match presentation, Laura Wolvaardt said:
That was unbelievable. I think probably the innings of her career and what a time to bring it out. I think she bats away in the nets all the time so we’ve all seen all of those shots before. She just brought it out of the beautiful time in the game. She bowed it amazingly, I think, when she came in just the intent that she showed and that’s exactly her role. We knew we’d only one down so it was sort of a free hit for both of us just to keep going and to get that run right down as quick as we could.
South Africa is set to compete in the Finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup on October 20, 2024, against the winners of Semi-Final 2, which will feature West Indies Women and New Zealand Women on October 18, 2024.
