Lee's incredible form has now seen her score 253 runs off 134 balls in her last two matches.
In the Women’s Big Bash League 2024, Hobart Hurricanes Women have surged to the top spot in the points table, thanks to a sensational performance by Lizelle Lee. The opener’s remarkable century against Adelaide Strikers Women powered her team to a comfortable 28-run victory. Lee’s explosive knock of 103 off 59 balls, which included 13 boundaries and 4 sixes, was the highlight of the match, leading the Hurricanes to a total of 191/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
Lee’s dominant performance came after she had already made waves in the tournament with a record-breaking 150* in the previous match. Despite being dropped twice early on, Lee made the most of her chances, bringing up her half-century off just 35 balls and reaching three figures in the 14th over. She was eventually dismissed in an unfortunate run-out after a ricocheted delivery hit the stumps, but by then, she had already put her team in a commanding position.
While Lee was the star, Nicola Carey also played a crucial role, finishing unbeaten on 64* from 46 balls. The Hurricanes’ bowlers, led by Lauren Smith and young leg spinner Amy Smith, kept the Strikers in check during the chase. Despite a fighting 63 from Laura Wolvaardt, the Strikers fell short, finishing at 163/3. With this victory, Hobart Hurricanes have moved to the top of the table, putting them in a strong position as they approach the final stages of the tournament.
