Kohli has had a promising start to the IPL 2025 campaign with a few solid knocks under his belt, while Sharma, on the other hand, is still searching for rhythm and did not feature in Mumbai Indians’ last match against Gujarat Titans due to injury. This difference in current form seems to have influenced the fans’ voting choices.

Mumbai Indians Beats Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Fan Battle

Just like the player battle where Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru got more fan votes than Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians, there was another interesting contest — this time between the teams themselves. As part of IPL Rivalry Week, Star Sports shared a poll showing which team was creating more buzz on social media ahead of the big match between MI and RCB. 

Based on fan activity over the last 24 hours, Mumbai Indians came out on top with 54% of the total “Social Buzz”, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru followed with 46%. The graphic shared by Star Sports included a map of India that showed where fans were most active for each team and in the poll, it was Mumbai Indians who won by a margin of 8% favouring them.

It clearly showed that both teams have strong support from different parts of the country. Despite not being in top form and missing Rohit Sharma in their last match, Mumbai Indians still had a slight edge in online fan engagement. RCB, powered by Virat Kohli’s massive fan following, came close and showed just how strong their fan base continues to be.
