When the peaceful town of Pahalgam in South Kashmir was struck by a devastating terror attack on April 22, 2025, the nation was left in shock. Gunmen opened fire at a popular tourist spot, killing at least 26 civilians and injuring over 20 others. The Resistance Front (TRF), allegedly linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault.

In response, the fans are looking for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to issue a strong directive: “Don’t play cricket with Pakistan”. Former Indian cricketer Shreevats Goswami echoed this sentiment, calling for a complete severance of cricketing ties with Pakistan. Having recently visited Pahalgam for the Legends League, Goswami expressed anguish over the shattered peace in the valley and emphasized the need for dignity and zero tolerance in India’s response. The attack has reignited debate over mixing politics and sports, with Goswami criticizing those who defend cricketing ties despite such tragedies.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also condemned the incident and extended condolences to the victims’ families. Authorities revealed that the terrorists targeted a secluded, non-motorable location popular among tourists, making the ambush even more tragic. The incident not only deepens Indo-Pak tensions but also threatens Kashmir’s fragile tourism economy.
