SA vs BAN: South Africa Boosts WTC Finals Chances After First Test Win
South Africa moves to the fourth spot in the World Test Championship standings, boosting their chances to reach the finals which will take place in The Lords. The Proteas defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the first test.
There have been a few changes to the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC), as South Africa defeated Bangladesh in the first test of the two-match series. This victory in the first game also boosted the chances for South Africa to reach the first-ever finals of the World Test Championship in 2025.
South Africa was able to defeat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the Away test, as the team has also taken a lead of 1-0 in the series. Bangladesh was able to score just 106 runs in the first innings of the game, as the Proteas did a fightback by scoring 308 runs in the second innings of the game.
Bangladesh was also able to perform well in the third innings of the game, as they regained the momentum but scored 307 runs. Therefore, South Africa received the target of just 106 runs, which allowed them to secure the win as Tony de Zorzi scored 41 runs in 52 balls, while Tristan Stubbs was not out at the score of 30.
WTC Points Table
Before the start of the first Test match against Bangladesh, South Africa stood at the sixth spot in the WTC standings with a 38.89 winning percentage. However, this has now been improved to 47.62 per cent, moving them to the fourth spot and overtaking New Zealand and Pakistan.
