With the Wankhede Stadium honoring one of India’s greatest cricketers, the Mumbai Cricket Association has unveiled the “Rohit Sharma Stand” at Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion. This tribute comes in recognition of Rohit Sharma’s stellar career, during which he amassed 19,700 runs in 499 international matches, including a record-breaking 264 in ODIs and 49 centuries. The inauguration, set for May 16, precedes Mumbai Indians’ home game on May 21 against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, where fans will cheer from the newly named stand.
Rohit recently retired from Test cricket at age 38 and leaves behind a legacy that includes captaining India to titles in the T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has scored 300 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 152.28 in IPL 2025.
The ceremony will also honor cricket icons Sharad Pawar and Ajit Wadekar, with stands named after them, and dedicate the MCA Lounge to the late Amol Kale. This renaming marks a special moment for Rohit, a Borivali-born cricketer, as his name becomes permanently etched in Mumbai cricket’s iconic venue.
