Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s greatest cricketers, left fans and experts stunned by his abrupt retirement following the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. As India’s second-highest wicket-taker across formats, Ashwin retired without a farewell game, a decision that has sparked widespread speculation.

Former Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath shared his thoughts on Ashwin’s retirement, suggesting that the spinner faced dissatisfaction within the team. Speaking to sources, Badrinath said:

I am shocked. I think, to be honest, he wasn’t treated fairly. Rohit Sharma said he wanted to leave after the Perth Test match. He wanted to leave when Washington Sundar was played ahead of him. That tells you he was not happy.

Badrinath also pointed out the challenges faced by cricketers from Tamil Nadu. He stated:

Honestly, I am saying something, it’s a big thing for a cricketer from Tamil Nadu. There are many reasons for that. Players from a few other states get better chances. Despite all these odds, Ashwin went on to take more than 500 wickets and became a legend.

Boiling the tension amid the controversy, he further added:

Imagine what he must have gone through… efforts were made to sideline him. But every time, he has bounced back like a phoenix bird.

Ashwin returned to Chennai after the Brisbane Test, skipping the final two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Upon arrival, he declared he had “no regrets” about his decision, leaving the cricketing world reflecting on his immense contributions to Indian cricket.
